The longest-lived Maahes of the chapter, at 84 years. Wahka-Meri took the mantle at the moment a new royal capital was founded, and used the stability of the age to do what no Maahes before him had: build.
He built the Pride's first permanent posts on the Nubian frontier, including at the great fortress of Buhen, where watchers could guard the Nile gateway to the south. He also made a change that mattered more than any fortress. For the first time, Nubian candidates were allowed to take the Tests, and the first to pass the Test of the Threshold, a woman named Teqa-Ari who held a gate at Buhen through two nights of raiders, was admitted to the Pride as an equal. Within a generation, a third of the frontier watchers were Nubian.
His long life, powered by the best resin supply in the chapter, let him train three generations of slayers himself. When he died, he was said to have known every watcher on the frontier by name.
What he left behind: the frontier posts, and the principle that the Pride belongs to the whole river, not to Egypt alone.
